I had a similar pair when I was a DJ at the Cary Quad radio station many moons ago. Pretty good, but who knows what has changed in 20 years.

I have heard that they're overpriced. What's your budget? $100?

Haha really? You saw my post about me getting the old Reel-to-reel from the Harrison Radio Station?

About that. I'm use to $20 in-ears but I want something with better sound and build quality so I don't have to listen to my roommate and other people.

I owned a pair and they're ok headphones. However they had such a flat response they would almost make me feel physically ill. It's very hard to explain but they're just kind of disorienting.

I worked for church audio visual and they had a pair of those. They're pretty good, but not like completely noise cancelling.
Last year, my roommate was super loud and screamed when he played League. So this semester in preparation for a new roommate, I got a pair of Bose QC25s.
My roommate is silent. I'm pretty much noise cancelling silence.

I have a pair of these. At first, the pads felt a little small when I tried them on in the store, but I've been using them for about half a year now (I wear them a lot, as I watch everything - movies, TV-shows, etc. - with earphones), and they're really comfortable.

Also, they seem to be durable (the cable is detachable - that was a must, as all my previous headphones started to have contact issues after some time).
I bought the Audio Technika after I got a refund for a pair of JBL J88s, because the headband of the - otherwise comfy - JBL simply cracked after a few months of use.

There's a reason they've been around mostly unchanged forever and are the go-tos for most radio/news station monitors. They're very rugged and have extremely neutral sound. I bought a pair two years ago to replace a pair I'd had for 15 years prior to that.
They're nothing fancy, they're just good and they last for a long time. There may be better stuff out there, but if I'm only buying once every decade or so I stick to what I know. Highly recommended from me.

I bought a pair of those exact ones recently. I'm not much of a headphone aficionado but they sound great to me. And since they've been manufactured for the better part of 20 years makes me think they've been doing something right.

I had a pair of those a while ago. They sound great, are comfortable, and were quite well-made.
Since then, I've owned a pair of Grado SR80i and I currently use a pair of AKG K240 Mk2. I think the Grados sound the best of all of them, but they are the least comfortable. The AKGs I think are a little better than the Sony in sound quality and comfort, but build quality is a little worse.
None of those block outside sound particularly well. If you want a great pair of isolating headphones for cheap, the Monoprice 8323 are an incredible bargain. The build quality is only fair and comfort is middle of the road, but the sound quality is excellent and sound isolation is very good. Not bad for $24.

These. Pretty much standard equipment in any mid-level studio environment. Not noise cancelling for sure, though, they're designed to leak a little bit.

I use a pair of MDRV6's at work every day - I'm not sure how they compare to these, but I think they're just an older version of the same thing. I had to replace the earpads a while back, as the originals didn't last very long and started leaving little bits of vinyl around my ears. The replacement aftermarket earpads are excellent though, even more comfortable than the original, and I've had no trouble since (if you'd like I can track down what they were). If you intend to travel with them, the fact that they fold is pretty useful. Mine almost never leave my desk, though, so I actually wish they didn't fold because the joints tend to squeak a bit as the headset ages, and it's pretty annoying. That's my biggest gripe though, these are nice earphones.

I have a pair of MDR-v6 (exactly the same but for home use) and MDR-7520 (the successor to this one) and they sound superb. I'd also get a pair of velour ear pads (DT250 ear pads) since the pleater is shallow and make your ears sweaty. The velour also helps give a little more bass.
